About Sharon

I work from a humanistic (person-centred), existentialist and integrative approach. This means I approach clients with empathy, warmth and unconditional positive regard. I believe that creating meaning in our lives can help us to find fulfilment. I treat each person I meet with respect and I try to provide a safe, non-judgemental space where they can feel comfortable to open up about their thoughts and feelings. Building rapport is of the utmost importance to me and I make sure my clients feel heard and are validated. I value what each client brings to the session and I try to empower clients so that we can build a therapeutic alliance and collaboratively work towards a therapeutic goal.

I believe in the importance of having an integrative approach to theories so that I can utilise strategies that are appropriate for each unique client. These include evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, narrative therapy, psychodynamic therapy and play therapy.

I listen carefully to each client in order to formulate a unique treatment plan. I use a holistic approach and make sure I understand all aspects of the client since therapy is most effective when I take a person’s complete picture (thoughts, feelings, patterns of behaviour, childhood experiences and relationships) into account. Having said this, it must be noted that I will never force a client to disclose anything they are not comfortable talking about.

I am always interested in new ways of helping people. I am committed to expanding my knowledge base through workshops, coursework, reading and supervision, which enriches the work that I do.

I am passionate and take pride in my work and feel very privileged to work with clients. I enjoy helping each unique client to build resilience and resolve barriers that are inhibiting personal growth. I believe therapy can help clients gain insight as well as provide them with practical skills when dealing with difficult aspects of their lives. This will help them develop a more meaningful, balanced and fulfilling life.
